The Grace Christian Academy Cheer team will bring school spirit this year.
Head Coach Jessica Miller said the team has been busy preparing for football season.
“The girls have been working on cheers, chants, dances,” Miller said. “We’ve got pep rallies planned for home games.”
The cheerleaders attended a Universal Cheer Association cheer camp this summer, where they learned new cheers and chants.
Miller said that fans can expect to see stunting from the cheer team, along with cheers, chants, and dances.
The cheerleaders will pair up with a football player through the season, being their “buddy” and making them care packages.
“Some weeks, we’ll do a little snack, like a Gatorade and something else,” Miller said. “They kind of get them a little treat every week before the game.”
The buddy system has been going on since before Miller started coaching last season. The team does it during basketball season as well.
Half of the squad is returning cheerleaders, and the other half is new cheerleaders. Miller said she’s excited about her seniors being the team leaders and helping the new girls.
“We’re kind of having a big-little sister pairing between the girls,” Miller said. “We’re trying to bring bonds together and help everybody.”
