The Lady Cats scored 33 runs in four innings at the plate in their doubleheader against Westover. The team won the first game 17-0 and the second 16-0. Both games were stopped at the top of the third inning due to mercy rule.
Bainbridge scored eight in the first inning and nine in the second in the first game.
Shortstop Haylee Nix opened up the scoring with a stolen base, and the runs kept coming. Ten players scored runs in the Lady Cats’ two innings of offense.
Nix led the team with three runs, third-baseman Kylie Miller, third-baseman Kylaha Hughes, center-fielder Emilee Tindell, first-baseman Katelyn Williams and center-fielder Destiny Lofton scored two, and second-baseman Haisten Wilkinson, second-baseman Emma Dollar, Catcher Abigail Holley and right-fielder Marisa Williams scored one.
Marisa Williams led the team with three RBIs, pitcher Brenna Conley, Nix and Holley had two, and Dollar had one.
Connley threw a no-hitter and the Lady Cats stole 12 bases in the win.
The second game was more of the same. The Lady Cats scored 11 runs in the first inning and five in the second.
Every player that went up to bat found their way to home plate. Nix led the team again with three runs. Conley, Wilkinson, Miller and Lofton scored two runs, and Tindell, Holley, Williams and Williams scored one. Connely led the team in RBIs with four.
Freshman pitcher Laynie Varnum pitched the second game. Varnum threw four strikeouts and allowed one hit and one walk.
Head coach Rex Wade said the doubleheader was valuable to the team’s hitting development.
“We did a pretty good job of not swinging at bad pitches and making sure we were staying in the zone,” Wade said. “That helps, so when we see a pitcher who’s throwing in the zone, we’re attacking those pitches.”
