Isobel MacFarlane Ramsay was born September 23, 1921, in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Dugald & Agnes Caird Ramsay. After college, she married Richard Donald Odegaard. They made their home in the Atlanta area where Isobel worked as a nutritional & custodial manager with Gwinnett County Schools until her retirement. She moved to Bainbridge in 2006 and was Christian by faith.
Family was always very important to Isobel with her pets running a close second. She was named WSB-TV Mother of the Year in the 80s while only scratching the surface of those who felt “mothered” by her nurturing spirit. Isobel was quite a character sharing stories of her travels listing her favorite destinations as St. George Island and of course, her beloved Scotland. Many will remember time spent at her table and the joy she felt entertaining friends and family. Her most notable dishes include chicken & dumplings, plum pudding, and English toffee.
Survivors include her children, Heather Mapp of East Point, FL, Bonnie Bel Ellerbee (Sammy) of Little Torch Key, FL, and Kirk Odegaard (Thu) of Lake Worth, FL; her grandchildren, Heidi & Kirk Chambers, Nick & Beth Ellerbee, and Neil & Alana Ellerbee; and her great-grandchildren, Ramsay Chambers, Emily Chambers, Connor Ellerbee, Addison Ellerbee, and Westley Ellerbee. In addition to her parents, Isobel was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, James Ramsay.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
