Jorene Haire was born September 20, 1934, to Laura Cobb Haire and Everrett Iverson Haire. She attended school in Miller County. On July 7, 1951, she married Donald Edgar Brown, Sr., and they made their home in the Babcock Community where she lived until her death this past Thursday. Jorene was a homemaker and a devoted farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Jorene was an active member of Bellview Church her entire life until her health made it impossible to attend. She fulfilled many roles during her active years—from Sunday School teacher, VBS worker, youth worker, event planner, and most importantly, a dedicated deacon’s wife. She and Don were the hands and feet of Jesus through their many years of church service. Jorene had quite the reputation for her delicious dishes, always served with love. She is most well known for her perfect caramel cakes, chicken & dumplings, dressing, and cornbread. Two of her favorite past times were cutting grass on her Snapper lawn mower and working in her yards. She could sew anything and always kept a clean home ready for visitors at any time.Survivors include her two children and their spouses, Joyce Mills and Roger, and Don Jr., and Jill. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Emily Brown and Lindsey Brown Chambless and her husband, Brian. Other survivors include two step-granddaughters, Sarah Mills and Janet Lewis, along with two great-grandsons, Colton Chambless and Ford Lewis. She has one remaining sibling, Hester Brown and her husband, Edward Brown, and a number of devoted nieces and nephews. Jorene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two siblings, Oleen Haire Merritt and James “Snooky” Cobb.
