Amy Elizabeth Phelps was born May 10, 1961, in Huntington, NY, the daughter of Richard & Patricia Haley Phelps. She lived in Lake City, FL prior to moving to Southwest Georgia 48 years ago. She earned credits towards a business degree but found her gift was rescuing animals. Amy was Pentecostal by faith.

Always one to speak her mind, Amy could be described as “a little feisty”. She didn’t mince words and left you sure of where she stood on most any issue. Amy loved jewelry and found herself drawn to many irresistible pieces that no doubt landed in her collection. She was a great cook; her shepherd’s pie and pound cakes were favorites among family and friends. Amy’s love for animals resulted in many rescues and hours of special attention and care. Her example of unconditional love leaves a legacy for Lily & Oathen, the grandchildren who brought her so much joy.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Lloyd Atkinson; her son, Stuart Atkinson and his wife, Jessie; her grandchildren, Lily & Oathen; her mother, Patricia Haley; her sister, Melissa Smith of Starke, FL; her beloved dog, Ellie, and favorite feline, Mogley; many nieces and nephews; and a clowder of rescued cats. Amy was preceded in death by her father, Richard Phelps.
