February has been designated as Black History month, which was introduced by Dr. Carter G. Woodson. It was first started as Black History week, but changed later to Black History Month. Although February is the shortest month of the year, this is a great historical month. In order to know where you are going, it is important to know where you come from. We honor all African Americans living or deceased who gave of themselves to make life better making a difference for Christ by serving their fellowman. The work that each of you contributed may never be seen in textbooks, manuscripts or documents, but they are seen by God Almighty, the ruler and maker of all mankind. He will reward his people for their labor of love with a reward that will not fade away, but eternal in glory!
We are living in perilous time as we see the condition of the world today. The Bible is being fulfilled everyday as we look around and can see what is going on near and far. Some people have turned away from God and have not accepted Jesus as he is the Savior of the world. John 3:16 tells us “for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” As Christians, we need to pray more and read and study the Bible. Our walk and talk must reflect Christ and bring glory to him. A lot of young people are watching the older people that is why we need to set a positive example before them and teach them the right way. As we read and study the book of Genesis in the Bible which means beginning, we can learn so much from God’s word about life and how everything was started. There are times when you read it, you are so amazed until you want to keep on reading. The Bible tells us in Gensis 1:1 “In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth.” After God made everything, he said it was good and very good. He made Adam from the dust of the ground and breathe the breath of life in him and man became a living soul. He made Eve from the rib of the Adam and he called her woman; bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. God blessed them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. That was the beginning of God’s family. God knows all things even before it happens good or bad.
After the fall of mankind because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin entered mankind and the world. That is why we need a Savior. Jesus came to save us form a world of sin. We cannot hide from God or get above him. His word will forever stand and it does not change. Matthew 24:35 says “heaven and earth will pass away but my word will never pass away.” As we read about Abraham whose name was changed from Abram to Abraham, God told Abraham to leave his family and go to a place that he would show him. Abraham is known as the Father of the Faithful because he obeyed and trusted God and God counted him as righteous. He did not know where he was going, but he had faith in God. We need to take a lesson from Abraham because sometimes God wants us to move from certain situations in order for him to bless us. We too have to walk by faith and not by sight and put our trust totally in God. Abraham took his nephew Lot with him. As they parted their ways, because they both had great possessions, Abraham being the older and mature man gave his nephew Lot the first choice of choosing where he wanted to live. The Bible says Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company and Abraham lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. The people of Sodom were wicked and sinned greatly against the Lord. Genesis 13:10-11. After time passed, Abraham received word that his nephew Lot had been captured and he rescued him. Sometimes sin has us bound and we need to be delivered and set free. The Bible goes on to say that because the city was so wicked, God decided to destroy it. Two angles arrived in Sodom in the evening and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. The city was so wicked that the men wanted to have sex with the angles. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said no my friends, don’t do this wicked thing. I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. The men tried to break down the door and have sex with the two men, who were angels instead of Lot’s daughters. Genesis 19:6-8
This shows the wickedness of mankind today. Some of us have strayed away from God’s law and have no fear or respect for him. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. Proverbs 9:10. The Bible tells us to “fear God and to keep his commandments”. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. Consequences will follow if we fail to obey his word. Abraham pleaded to God to not destroy the city if there were fifty righteous people there. Abraham started with fifty people and ended up with ten. God promised Abraham he would not destroy the city if there were ten righteous people in that city. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because God could not find ten righteous people. If Jesus came today, would he be able to find ten righteous people in your city? If not, turn back to God, repent and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:10. Pray, keep the faith and read and study the Bible because it is God’s basic instructions before leaving the earth. THE BIBLE.
Prayer: Dear Father, forgive us and give us another chance to get right where we have gone wrong. Jesus, come into my life today and become my Lord and Savior. In Jesus Name. Amen
