Family members, specifically fathers and daughters, gathered at the Burns Christian Center, formerly the Shriner’s Club, on Saturday, February 24, for the God’s Little Princesses Father/Grandfather Banquet-Dance.
According to Catherine Ellison, the event organizer, there were between 60 and 65 people in attendance. This is not the first “God’s Little Princesses” event that’s been put on, that being a tea party in summer of last year. Nor will it be the last, with a Mother’s Day Fashion Show/Brunch and a Cancer Awareness Banquet also planned for this year.
However, these events are not just parties or dances. “All events begin with prayer and scripture,” Ellison said. In addition, Ellison spoke at the event, with the theme being, “I Am Somebody!”
The public reception to the event has been positive; Pastor Dennis Brinson saying, “Promoting Father and Daughter relationships is a must and it is good for the soul! Beautiful!”
“Spectacular event, functions such as these help build relationships between fathers and their daughters,” wrote Reverend Ronnie Harrison.
“I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child,” Ellison said of the event. “Our children are a product of what we produce. If you want the kids to do something different, we must show them something different.”
