Sophomore pitcher Brooks Hines pitched every inning for the Bearcats as they won 2-1 against Westover. The 2023 All-Region pitcher threw strikes on nearly 75% of his pitches.
Bearcats’ head coach Donnie Coxwell said pitching has been a focal point for the team this season, and Hines’s performance was up to par.
“[Brooks] did a great job,” Coxwell said. “Seventy-seven pitches and a complete game… That’s what I expect him to do.”
The game was quiet until the fourth inning. Westover was first on the scoreboard with one run in the inning.
The Bearcats answered in the sixth inning with two runs. Brennan Enfinger scored Bainbridge’s first run off a line-drive single from Bowen Smith. Smith scored three at-bats later, courtesy of an Amarion Donaldson line-drive single.
The score was 2-1 going into the top of the seventh. The Bearcats held the Patriots scoreless and capped off their second win of the season.
The win brings the Bearcats’ record to 2-6. Bainbridge travels to Westover tomorrow for a doubleheader. The first game starts at 4 p.m., and the second follows.
