Funeral services for Iva Nell Whiddon Broome, 86, of Cairo, GA, were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2023, at Family Worship Center, Cairo, GA.  Pastor Johnny H. Moore will officiate.  Services will conclude at the church and the family will have a private interment.  Mrs. Broome passed away at Magnolia Place Senior Living, Cairo, GA, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Family Worship Center.   

Mrs. Broome was born on November 15, 1937, in Bainbridge, GA, to the late Claude Whiddon and Louise Hickey Whiddon.  On March 24, 1957, she married Fred Daniel Broome, who preceded her in death on July 12, 2020.  They were married for 63 years.

She worked as a skilled seamstress before spending the majority of her life as a devoted homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Later she was employed by the Grady County Senior Center serving as the Assistant Director until she retired. She was a charter member of Family Worship Center in Cairo, where she was an avid leader of numerous church ministries.

Survivors include: son, Fred Daniel Broome, Jr. (Jenni) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Fred Daniel Broome, III, (Destiny) of Cairo, GA, Elisabeth Quay Broome of Cairo, GA, Julia Danielle Harrison (Bennett) of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Iva Grace Broome, Emma Rae Broome, both of Cairo, GA, Jase Daniel Harrison, Reece James Harrison, both of Cairo, GA; brothers, William “Bill” Whiddon (Cindy) of Bainbridge, GA, Kenneth Whiddon (Kay) of Havana, FL, Jack Whiddon (Jean) of Bainbridge, GA; sister-in-law, Mary Whiddon of Havana, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.      

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Larry Whiddon.

The family will receive friends at Family Worship Center immediately following the funeral service.
