Parents were treated to a mini-Broadway performance at the Kirbo Center on Friday, with Hutto Elementary students performing a broad selection of musical numbers as part of the first Bearcat Broadway production. Hutto teacher Christina Baker stated that she hopes to make this performance a regular thing. This performance has been several months in the making, she elaborated, with auditions having started in December prior to Christmas break, and rehearsal starting on the first week back to school this year.
Baker described the performance as a way to build the arts for students outside of their usual music class. Students performed musical dance numbers from various productions; “I’m just super impressed with all the kids and what they were able to put together,” Baker said.
“I couldn’t have done it without our administration, our PTO and the other teachers,” Baker said, specifically thanking Mindy Strickland, Haley Reece and Amber Roland. She added that the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and that she hasn’t heard “anything but great things.”
