The Bainbridge High School gymnasium was bustling last Thursday morning, as this year’s Bearcat Spring Games, formerly the Special Olympics, got underway. Following the traditional morning parade from the Boat Basin, complete with police escort, special needs students from Decatur and Seminole County schools, along with students from Pataula and Spring Creek Charter Academy, filled the gym, where a host of sports and activities were offered. These included shooting hoops, the soccer kick, the 50-yard dash, and bean bag toss.
According to local event coordinator Steve Brooks, this year’s turnout was comparable to last year, seeing roughly 90 students participate in the event, with 65 high school students and 15 Grace Christian Academy students volunteering to help.
Brooks thanked the Decatur County School administrators, local law enforcement and the motorcycle club The Remaining Few for their participation in and contributions to the event.
