The Bearcats and Ladycats have been crowned Region 1-4A Champions and enter the playoffs as No. 1 seeds.
The teams earned the region title at the region tournament Tuesday, April 8. They both stayed perfect, winning every match 5-0.
“It’s great momentum going into the playoffs,” said Bainbridge head coach Xavier Bell.
The Ladycats opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Hardaway, then swept Cairo 5-0 for the region title.
The Bearcats had an identical day. They started with a 5-0 win over the Hawks and crushed Cairo 5-0 for the region championship.
“We stayed focused today,” Bell said. “We didn’t get complacent, we brought it.”
Bell said he saw confidence in his players during the tournament and hopes that confidence will carry into the playoffs.
“Like I’ve said before, it’s that confidence,” Bell said. “If we stay that confident going into the first round of state, keep that momentum going, and keep chugging along, we might find ourselves in the finals.”
The playoffs start next week, and the date of Bainbridge’s first-round matches are still TBD. The first round match must be completed by April 18, per GHSA Guidelines.
