The Bearcats were crowned Region 1-4A Champions for the second time in school history with a 6-1 victory over Cairo High School.
“I’m extremely proud,” said Bearcats’ head coach Brian Hill. “They played really well. They played hard, they played aggressive. Everything kind of clicked and came together. It was a whole team effort.”
Twin sophomores Jose and Angel Bonilla-Ortiz scored four of the six goals in the win. Senior Brock Williams added another, and freshman Midfielder Henry Chiguil scored his first career varsity goal at the end of the game.
The region championship is something the team has been working towards all season.
“We have our goals, and our number one goal was to win region,” Hill said. “It’s a good group of kids, we’ve been working hard, playing hard and it all came together. It’s a great way to end the regular season.”
Winning the region secured the Bearcats a No.1 seed going into playoffs. They’re slated to face Troup County High School in the first round. That match will be a home contest for Bainbridge and will be played at Centennial Field on Wednesday, April 17.
