This past weekend saw two Bainbridge residents celebrate milestone birthdays. Former city council member Luther Conyers celebrated his 95th birthday on Saturday, while Homer Murphy Jr. celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday as well.
Both men are former veterans, with Conyers serving in Korea and Murphy serving in World War II. Conyers taught at West Bainbridge Elementary School, and would serve for almost 40 years on the Bainbridge City Council.
Murphy retired from BASF’s mining operation in Quincy, Florida, after 35 years. He stated, “The key to living 100 years is knowing Jesus.”
