Bainbridge basketball player AJ Grant has signed to play with East Georgia State College. The point guard inked his commitment Friday afternoon. He said he’s been working toward this day since he was four years old.
“The feeling is amazing,” Grant said. “The end goal was this, even though this isn’t the end, but this is a step in the process.
Grant said he’s “blessed” to be joining the Bobcats after high school. He suffered two major knee injuries during his varsity career that could have ended his collegiate dream.
“That could put somebody back so far,” Grant said. “For me to be able to come back and keep going, it’s really emotional… It’s happy emotional.”
Grant had a career year in the 2023-2024 season, leading the Bearcats in points per game (16.3), rebounds per game (6), steals per game (2.3) and free throw percentage (75%).
The co-captain brought Bainbridge its first region championship in recent history. He hit four clutch free throws against Hardaway at the end of the title match to capture a one-point lead and set senior guard Zyrell Williams up to score a game sealing layup.
Grant said he’s staying committed to his game as he takes this next step.
“I’m getting ready to compete at any level,” Grant said. “I know if I keep working hard, my ability is going to take me as far as I work… I’m really excited to compete.”
