Clara Juanita Elders was born June 8, 1930, in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Howard & Ruth Clenney Elders. Juanita married Oscar George Singleton in 1946, and they made their home in the Delwood Community. Juanita was a faithful member of Delwood Baptist Church.
Known for her impeccable yard, which always looked like a showplace, Juanita made sure weeds were pulled, grass was mowed, and her prize-winning lilies were standing at attention. She was old school and believed hard work paid off. Often others wanted to “help” to which she would scoff and remind them she could hold her own (and probably work circles around them). Juanita was a devoted mother serving as both caretaker and confidant to her children. She would shoot it straight and be right there to help you along the way.
Her home cooking attracted folks from miles away. Her menu always included two to three vegetables and two to three meats. Banana pudding, cookies, divinity, and homemade dressing were requested by those whom she fed often. When Juanita took a break from yard work or the kitchen, you might find her at her favorite local joint, Dairy Queen, enjoying a chicken strip basket and preparing for a little shopping. She was always on the go, dressed to the nines with hair & nails in order, and ready to ride to town for most any reason.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Simpson; her grandchildren, Ryan & Lisa and Natalee; and her great-grandchildren, Blake & Ansley. In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Oscar George Singleton; her sons, O.D. Singleton and Gene Singleton; her son-in-law, Roy Simpson; her grandson, Jeff Simpson; and her brother, Joe Elders.
