Peggy Joy Whiddon was born April 20, 1934, in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Sank & Carrie Belle Grimsley Whiddon. She was a graduate of Faceville High School. She married Johnny Lee Cooper on September 13, 1952, and they made their home in the Recovery Community after traveling early in their marriage with the military. Peggy was a member of Recovery Methodist Church.

Peggy’s nature was to nurture. For many years, her “job” was caring for her parents. She enjoyed cooking so everyone was always well fed, especially at church functions such as the chicken pilau. Her work at the church was never about the task at hand but about the One who called her to it. She didn’t mind cleaning, cooking, or plugging in wherever there was a gap.

Her yard was her masterpiece. In Peggy’s mind, her garden was symbolic. She planted seeds and nurtured them with water, fertilizer, and encouragement to bloom where they were planted, much in the same way she discipled others.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Cooper, and his wife, Monique, of Tallahassee; her grandchildren, John and Emily & Kenny; her great-grandchild, Gavin; her nieces & nephew, Carrie Ann Flynn (Bill), Rex Moody (Connie), and Peggy Sue Anderson; her great-nephew, Zoe Logan; her great-niece, Shana Moody Dean (Deano); her great-great niece & nephew, Sabryna Dean (Matt Hall) & Nico Dean; and her great-great-great nephew, Kash. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Johnny Lee Cooper, and her sisters, Mae Moody and Betty Sue Whiddon.
