Grace Christian Academy alumni Blake Rykard recently took the next step in his career, having furthered his ag aviation education at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. Rykard finished with his Commercial Pilot and Instrument rating, as well as his Ag training.
According to Rykard’s mother, Shona Rykard, students must have already achieved their Private Pilot rating, and have 100 hours of tailwheel time before participating in the university’s program. Students begin their training with Citabria and Scout aircraft, before progressing to piloting a Stearman, followed by a Cessna Ag-Truck, and finally a dual-seat Air-Tractor.
Graduates of the program are able to work for aerial applicator businesses without higher insurance costs, according to an article by Delta State University.
