Donald Wade Brock was born December 31, 1932, in the Mt. Pleasant community, the son of Boen & Gussie Ash Brock. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and proudly served his country for twenty-two years in the United States Air Force. Later, Donald earned two associate degrees from Bainbridge Junior College, one in finance and one in construction management. He was a member of Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church.
Donald Brock was a man true to his word. He lived by “your word is your bond”, and you could count on it happening if he said he would handle it. No one is sure if the Air Force influenced Donald or if Donald influenced the Air Force, but he was organized, had everything planned to the minute, and was frugal with his finances. The self-appointed boss allowed things to unfold according to the routine that was set.
The children were his “platoon”; he taught them the value of hard work, how to appreciate life, patriotism, and appearances mattered to the point of ironing his clothes to work on the farm. He was adamant about “real country music” often tuning in to Bill Anderson & George Jones whom he considered the legends. Memories were made, and re-lived, as he toured his duty stations. The children fondly remember their time in France. Donald lived through times of progress and turmoil but never forgot his roots.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Bowles Brock; his children, Karen Brock Miller (Eddie) of Iron City, Steve Brock (Sherry) of Vada, Cindy Brock Bailey (Cliff) of Bainbridge, and Julie Brock Shiver (Skip) of Apalachicola; his grandchildren, Trinity, Chelsea, Stephanie & Mat, Dee & Paige, Jessica & Clayton, Eric & Ariel, Ash & Spencer, Brock & Kyle, Bo & Morgan, Camilla, and Brock; his great-grandchildren, Maddex, McCall, Myller, Mason, IV, Wiley, Vada, Beau, Emmerick, Briar Rose, Ezra, Echo, Evie, Fenn, Rhoades, and Bailey; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his son, Donald W. “Donnie” Brock, Jr.; and his siblings, Boen Lee Brock, Jr., James Edward Brock, Emma Jean Thomas, Douglas Brock, and Perry Brock.
