Norma Elaine Prescott was born October 17, 1949, in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Francis “Hiney” & Peggy Strickland Prescott. She lived her entire life in Bainbridge and spent the best 59 years with the love of her life, Larry Eugene Poitevint. Elaine retired from GA Gulf Sulphur. She was a Christian by faith and attended Southwest Baptist Church.

Smart, independent, and outspoken…Elaine told it like it was and never wavered on her opinion of things. She was a great writer and put her skills to work on things like Randy’s homework assignments. Her sense of humor was evidenced by the wise cracks that seemed to come out of nowhere. Elaine was a caretaker with a heart of gold and no judgement.

Traveling with Sarah gave her plenty of fodder for stories she told. She could talk her way out of most anything and usually got a good laugh at “winning”. Though she loved the beach, the Flint River was actually her favorite place. It was not only where she lived, it is where she loved, laughed, enjoyed friends & family, and felt most at peace. Of course, she always had a fishing pole nearby grinning at those who would ask, “You like to fish?” Humbly remembering the day she won a bass tournament, she would simply reply, “Yeah.”

Survivors include her children, Tracy & Kevin Helms; her grandchildren, Cody & Suzanne, Lucas & Brianna, Dallas, and Cash; her great-grandchild, Dalton; and her brother & sister-in-law, Randy & Kathryn Poitevint. In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Poitevint; her sister, Frances Lightsey; and her uncle, Lee Prescott.
