James Leaston Boutwell was born June 11, 1936, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of William & Gladys Palmer Boutwell. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. After high school, Leaston proudly served his country as an MP with the United States Army. He married Mary Kidd in 1960, and they made their home in the Mt. Pleasant Community. Leaston was a deacon and longstanding member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he also served as treasurer.

Hunting and fishing became a priority after retiring from farming. (And eating fish ranked high too.) Leaston was proud of the legacy he left his family. The lessons he learned (and taught) while growing crops and tending cattle were priceless. Leaston would testify the “grand” in grandchildren was no accident and accurately described how he felt about his own.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary K. Boutwell; his children, Lynn B. Davis (Alan) of Bainbridge, Jill B. Dennis (Miles) of Thomasville, Kiddy B. Garrett (Gregg) of Greensboro, GA, and Lee Boutwell (Mary Jo) of Climax; his grandchildren, Curtis & Kim, Audrey, Jacob & Kellie, Julianne & Chase, Charli & Casey, Alex, and Blake; and his great-grandchildren, Will, Klay, Connor, Brock, Gracie, and Oakley James. In addition to his parents, Leaston was preceded in death by his siblings, Doris Cooper and Gerald Boutwell.
