Members of the Bainbridge City Council met for their monthly meeting last Tuesday evening. Following the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, the first item of new business the council addressed was entering a public hearing on Ordinance 619, which is an amendment to the city’s hotel/motel excise tax, adding a 3% increase, bringing the total tax to 8%. The money from this tax has been specifically designated to go towards the Chason Park development district. No members of the public stepped forward during the public hearing. With no further discussion from the council, they voted to adopt the tax.

The next item on the agenda was consideration of an alcoholic beverage license, the only one being submitted by a Mr. Patel, owner of Vishal Management. The application was approved by the council.

Lastly, the council considered a mayoral appointment of candidates for the hospital authority. The council offers three candidates to the authority, with councilwoman Glennie Bench currently sitting on the authority. The council submitted Bench again, alongside Olivia Warren and Ciel Warr as candidates. The council voted to approve the appointments, with Bench recusing herself from the vote.
