Rather than gathering at Southern Regional Technical College, members of the Bainbridge Rotary Club met at the local Scouts hut for their weekly meeting, where scoutmaster Marguerite Jackson addressed the club members about the local Scout Troop’s activities.
After recalling how she came to be a scoutmaster in Bainbridge, Jackson began to discuss the various aspects of the Scouts program, beginning with the rank and merit badge system, as well as the Scout Law.
“We’re trying to raise young people to make good choices and be productive citizens, and be kind and courteous, and be helpful,” Jackson said.
She went on to show pictures of some of the Scout’s activities at Camp Woodruff, as well as group events between the boy’s and girl’s troops and Cub Scouts. Another topic she touched on was the planned retiring of Indian Lore merit badge, which the local Scouts worked to earn before its retirement, even learning native dances from local Native Americans. The local troops also participated in holding the American flag at the Talladega speedway.
The Scouts also began selling Christmas trees last year, which they plan to continue this year, hoping to expand their community activities to include Christmas-themed workshops.
