Hoyt Talmadge Sapp, Jr. was born June 8, 1955, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Hoyt T. Sapp, Sr. and Marjorie Burnum Sapp. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1974, and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a time. Hoyt worked as a lab technician with Millwhite. He married Peggy Jean Bird on November 23, 1991, and they made their home in Attapulgus where he was a member of Attapulgus Baptist Church.

Hoyt’s claim to fame was being the driver on family vacations to Gatlinburg, TN. While this was a longstanding title, as “Poppie” he quickly became known for his daily after school drive throughs at the Dairy Queen with Willow. Listening to music soothed Hoyt’s soul, and his sweet peas (aka Willow & Juniper) brought a smile to his face.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Peggy Bird Sapp; his daughter, Macey Rowland and her husband, Parker; and his grandchildren, Willow & Juniper. In addition to his parents, Hoyt was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Garner, Linda Seidel, and Jackie Green.

The Sapp Family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Georgia Hospice Care for their kindness and compassion.
