It was Sunday mid-afternoon when we all heard about the second attempt on the Republican candidate for president, Donald J. Trump. I hope this is not a situation where “the third time is the charm.” One time is enough, but two within the same election cycle!

            Mr. Trump was taking the day off from campaigning, doing what he likes to do most. Play golf. He was at his West Palm Beach International Golf Club when a Mr. Routh was hiding in the bushes waiting for him on the sixth hole. His cell phone gives us the information that he had been in his sniper’s nest for twelve hours.

            It’s amazing that he did not get a chance to shoot. The Secret Service, looking more like the Keystone Cops from the old silent movie era, seemed to have got this one right. A contingent was one golf hole ahead of the former president and just happened to see what looked like a gun barrel sticking through a chain-link fence.

            Taking no chances, the agent opened fire on Mr. Routh, upsetting his applecart. He left all of his goods, behind and ran, jumped in his black vehicle and took off. He would have gotten away, except for a witness who happened to see the action and took a picture of his truck and vehicle tag.

            She gave that information to the police and they captured him trying to get away. All of this is the amazing part that I mentioned. An eagle-eyed agent saw the barrel of the gun and, then, a woman with a phone and quick mind took the picture. They say if the woman had not taken the picture, the assassin would have escaped.

            There is much to ponder in regards to this situation. Once again, it seems that a gunman was able to get very close to being successful. That’s two times within a short period of time. Something is not working.

            A question that is being asked is whether these two attempts are coincidental or are the attempts part of a conspiracy to get rid of Mr. Trump. I don’t even want to think that there are people who would do something like form a conspiracy to assassinate anyone.

            But, two times within a short period of time? In our nation, who can we trust to investigate these attempts? The first attempt is two months old, yet we know very little about the shooter and the situation. Or, at least, we are being told very little. Sometimes I think our investigative organizations feel that the public, either should not know any details or can’t handle the details.

            I don’t agree. We should be told the truth about what is known. For instance, the first shooter, Mr. Crooks was seemingly a young man just out of high school. There was no background information in the beginning, the crime scene is cleaned up very quickly, and his body is cremated before too many questions are answered.

            We still are being told that a motive is unknown. I may be a simple man, but it’s clear to me that a motive is easily figured. He wanted to kill Donald Trump. That’s the motive. But, why and how? Then we find out that there are millions of dollars in foreign accounts connected to the young man. How did he get that?

            Now, Mr. Routh traveled all the way from Hawaii to West Palm Beach. His monthly income is $3000 a month. That’s not enough to cross the country, get a rifle, and all the other needs for what he did.

            Something is going on and we need to find out before the third time becomes the charm.
