Last Tuesday, Russell Boyd, owner of Boyd’s Bar-Be-Que, and Jennifer Cannon, owner of J. Christine Esthetique started collecting donations to help residents in Southwest Georgia who were affected by Hurricane Helene. The donations were dropped off to Johnathan Cannon owner of Classic Cleaners in Thomasville. Afterward, the donations were delivered to Samaritan’s Purse in Boone, NC.
Cannon collected donations with help from the Bainbridge Service Club. She also collected monetary donations that she used to purchase bulk items in cleaning products, medicine and ointment, toys for children, blankets, paper towels, and many more items.
Boyd helped with the donations when he noticed his grandson’s father, Jonathan Cannon making trips to Boone, NC. Boyd collected three truckloads of items that were worth $5,000 Boyd stated, “we were blessed to have collected over $5000 in items thanks to our chamber, local church community and customers of Boyd’s BBQ. We were really fortunate to have been spared from Helene.” He continued. “We have family in Statesville NC who was also barely spared from this destruction. We just felt this was a way of helping and a way to send love to these people from South Georgia. I want to personally thank each person who donated in that short window.”
Boyd and Cannon’s last day to receive donations was Last Thursday.
