Following this, the board discussed the CEO report. The CEO report began discussing Hurricane Helene impact on the hospital’s supplier of IV solution. Hurricane Helene has affected Baxter’s International North Cove, NC plant. The company manufactured 60% of the country’s supply of IV solutions, but the facility was flooded and closed for production. In addition, there are damages to the roads and collapsed bridges which lead towards the facility. So, Baxter placed customers on 40% allocation. Memorial Hospital reached out to other IV solution suppliers and were able to secure IV solutions from two sources. Additionally, the hospital has developed a “list of action” to conserve the IV solution for the hospital. Another impact is the food suppliers are experiencing shortages on milk and eggs with the cost of poultry rising. The hospital’s food supplier’s are making necessary substitutions where needed.
