After a rough season without a win, the Bainbridge Bearcats ended things on a high note Friday night, beating the Dougherty Trojans 45-33.

Things started off somewhat uneventfully in the first quarter; the Bearcats scored three points, courtesy of Riggs Rentz making a 27-yard field goal, while Dougherty put seven on the board.

The Bearcats quickly surged ahead in the second quarter however, scoring 21 points. Brooks Hines made a 39-yard pass to Camryn Scott for a touchdown, with Rentz kicking; Ja’Veen Breedlove made a 50-yard run, again with Rentz kicking; and the Cats made a final play in the second quarter with Hines again passing to Scott for a touchdown, with Rentz still kicking.

After halftime, BHS completely shut Dougherty out of the third quarter, while scoring 14 points themself. Bowen Smith received a 7-yard pass from Hines for the touchdown, and Breedlove ran 14 yards for another, with Rentz continuing to kick field goals.

The Trojans made a significant comeback in the final quarter, scoring 19, while the Bearcats only made a single touchdown, with Randy Johnson running one yard and Rentz kicking the extra point. However, the lead Bainbridge had gained was too much for Dougherty to overcome, giving the Bearcats a well-earned victory to end the season on.

“I’m just so proud of our kids for the way that they finished,” said Coach Jay Walls. “We had a great week, and they didn’t give up the fight… I’m proud of our coaches, you know we had a tough year, but nobody got down. We just kept working, and we did all we could do to send our seniors out on a winning note.”

“I’m just really proud of our kids. There ain’t no quit in the Bearcats,” he concluded.
