St. Elmo Harrison was born November 27, 1922, in Whigham, GA, the son of Leo & Eva Moore Harrison. He was a graduate of Whigham High School, Class of 1941 and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. St. Elmo spent his life farming the family land. He was Baptist by faith.
As a member of The Greatest Generation, St. Elmo witnessed many changes over the years. His life story includes history from multiple generations, and he relished in sharing his knowledge of Grady County and Georgia. His years on the farm included evolving methods of production. Embracing the “new-fangled ways” earned him many production awards. Additionally, St. Elmo & Kathryn were recognized Grady County Farm Family of the Year, and he was recognized as Georgia Peanut Farmer of the Year.
St. Elmo enjoyed watching Nascar & old westerns and fishing when weather permitted. He was an avid reader across the spectrum from farming magazines to romance novels. Cooking was another story. After many years, he finally learned to cook most anything except biscuits. His brother, Ronald, attempted to teach him how to make biscuits. St. Elmo said the only thing that came of this lesson was a free pan of biscuits compliments of Ronald.
