Jimmie Jeanette Barbree was born April 10, 1931, in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Charles Sr. & Jimmie Lee Freeman Barbree. After high school, she married Joe McCann, and they made their home in Decatur County. Jeanette was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Jeanette was a woman of strong faith having witnessed many changes over the better part of a hundred years. In her heart, she knew every day was a new day with a new beginning. Dr. David Jeremiah, her favorite preacher, encouraged his viewers & listeners to “make God’s Word your source book”, and Jeanette did just that.
Her life was a living testimony of unconditional love for others and for animals. The dogs and cats anywhere near Jeanette felt as if they entered the holy grail, feasting regularly and knowing without a doubt she cared for them. Jeanette kept busy working in her yard, sewing, and listening to country music, especially the swoons of Hank Williams. Her greatest joy was sharing a lifetime of memories with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Gloria McCann of Bainbridge, and Jim & Linda McCann of Brinson; her granddaughters, Kristen & Amanda; and her great-grandchildren, Conner & Faith. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Joe McCann, and her siblings, Cary Barbree, Charles Barbree, Jr., and Lillie Hazel Barbree.
