J. Jerome Wells was born February 28, 1938, and entered into rest November 25, 2024. He was the oldest son of the late Bill Wells and the late Annie Lou Wells. Jerome was a farmer and a businessman. He was a native of Miller County but spent the last forty years of his life as a resident of Bainbridge. He was a 1955 graduate of Miller County High School.
Jerome enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors with his family and friends. He loved his Florida State Seminoles and his Atlanta Braves. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
Jerome was active in several ag related organizations over the years. He was the founding vice president of the Georgia Peanut Producers Association, and as a member of the American Agriculture Movement, once drove a tractor all the way to Washington, DC to lobby Congress for a better national ag policy.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, Theresa Widner Wells, a son, Jay Wells (Rhonda), three grandchildren, Clay (Lily), Caroline and Cade Wells, a brother, Winston Wells (Judy), a sister, Glenda Vancel (Tom), and numerous nieces, nephews, and other members of his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Steve Wells, and a sister, Billie Griffis.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery with Lee Thomas, Stephen Adams, Bryan Davis, Colt Calhoun, Robbie Daughtry, and Randy Daniel serving as active pallbearers. Members of Walter C. Dancer Lodge #115 F&AM will serve as honorary pallbearers.
