The Bainbridge boys’ and girls’ basketball programs are on losing streaks of three and four, respectively, entering the winter break. However, the Lady Cats’ last three games have been decided by nine points combined.
It demonstrates how competitive Coach Cochran’s group is this season, even in defeat.
The girls fell to the Colquitt County Packers last Tuesday, trailing 31-17 after the third quarter. The Lady Cats (4-4, 0-0) would outscore Colquitt Co. 13-5 in the fourth quarter by creating turnovers from their press-man that closed the game within four with a minute to play (34-30).
No. 0 Ahleah Jones and No. 23 Da’Nydia Campbell were the offense’s centering pieces, scoring nine and eight points, respectively. Campbell scored six of her eight points in the second half.
In matchups last Friday at Thomasville, the Lady Cats lost a competitive back-and-forth affair 48-47 in double overtime.
The Lady Cats got out to a scorching offensive beginning, leading 10-5 after the first quarter, and were led by senior guard Jones, who put together a masterful 23-point performance showing off her three-point shooting with three of her six made field goals in the first half. Senior guard No. 4 Kyra Green had double-figures with ten.
Thomasville raised its halftime lead to 35-24 and as much as 17 points at 42-25 early in the fourth quarter.
In typical Lady Cats form, they’d claw their way back into the game in the final eight minutes, which was contributed by Jones’ personal 12-4 run that cut the deficit down to just four, 46-42.
In a game with all the high drama, it was a heartbreaking defeat but another showcase of why these Lady Cats don’t have an ounce of quit in their bodies.
The girls will face off against Sherwood Christian at home at 2:00 PM on December 27.
