Mattie Rebecca Phillips was born December 16, 1940, in Newton, GA, the daughter of Grady & Lizzie Musgrove Phillips. She graduated from high school in Jakin and took a few college classes before deciding she loved working with people more than going to school. Most will remember Rebecca from working at Brock’s Country Store and Wal-Mart. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Rebecca, also known as “MawMaw” to most everyone she met, was the calm, cool, collected one of her bunch. She had a great sense of humor and loved for you to crack a smile. The grandchildren filled her heart with joy.
She enjoyed doodling around the kitchen. Making jelly or serving her famous potato salad was like a magnet for her family and friends. Rebecca’s two favorite activities were playing Family Farm on FaceBook and fishing with her sister, Betty.
Survivors include her children, Kitty Gibson (Derek), Kim Easterling (Reneé), and Leanne Johnson; her grandchildren, Jesse, Steve, Erin, Brett, Zane, Caitlyn, and A.J.; her great-grandchildren, Shelby, Carter, Addie, Joleigh, and Kieran; and her dog, Retta. In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her son, Robert Parker; and her siblings, Betty Rentz, Lawrence Phillips, and Nora Beth Hunsberger.
