Former Bainbridge Bearcat, Brock Williams had a successful freshman year at Clayton State University. The Lakers finished 13-4-4, winning the Peach Belt Conference for the second consecutive year and advanced to the Elite Eight of the national playoffs.
Clayton State lost 2-1 in overtime to the Lynn University Knights in Boca Raton, Florida. The Knights were ranked No. 1 in the nation going into the tournament. Williams logged 77 minutes of play during the season and appeared in the Sweet 16 match against Limestone University in an overtime win.
Clayton State would finish #5 in the Final USC Coaches’ Poll, their best finish since 2011.
Williams, the all-time scoring leader for Bainbridge High School with 75 goals, was named to the 4A All-State team in his junior and senior campaigns. He was also named the Region 1 4A offensive player of the year and Region Player of the Year during his senior season at BHS. Williams was named a three-time 229 All-Star and named to the Georgia All-Star team in 2023.
Williams credits his success to the Florida Elite soccer club and Coach Eddie Foy of Manchester, England. During his time with Florida Elite, Williams played against teams all around the United States.
Williams said receiving instruction from Coach Foy, someone who played soccer at a high level was instrumental in preparing him for the next level and that playing with Florida Elite “slowed down” high school soccer and made breaking the scoring record more achievable.
William’s message to the future of soccer athletes, “Trust God and believe in his guidance, don’t let other people tell you what you can’t do.”
