Thelma Elise Stephens was born August 29, 1937, in Bainbridge GA, the daughter of Sheriff Alex Stephens & Elise Jones Stephens. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1956. Thelma married the love of her life, John Watts, in 1961. Thelma earned her license in cosmetology and spent her career helping others feel beautiful. She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church.
Thelma was a godly woman who loved the Lord with her whole heart. She was a tad sassy and always dressed to the nines. Her unforgettable smile and dynamic personality made others feel beautiful before they ever sat in her chair. Thelma loved her clients, and they couldn’t wait to get their heads in the shampoo bowl for her unmatched head massages.
Friends always became like family. She loved unconditionally and had the eye of a hawk, never missing a detail, bringing it up at just the right moment. Nourishing the soul was most important but nourishing the body a close second. Thelma was the queen of southern hospitality, and many enjoyed her fried chicken and country style vegetables over the years.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, John C. Watts, Sr.; her son, John C. Watts, Jr. (Lynn); her grandchildren, Trevor and Sarah Beth & Anthony; and her great-granddaughters, Rosie & Gracie. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her brothers, R.A. Stephens, Jr. and Bobby L. Stephens.
