The Bainbridge wrestling team showcased remarkable resilience at the Region 3A State Duals. In their opening dual, their unwavering determination was on full display as they narrowly lost with a score of 40-38. Their impressive performances across various weight classes underscored their dedication and skill.

In their second dual, Bainbridge again demonstrated their competitive spirit, finishing 39-29. The Bearcats showed standout performances in the heavier weight classes, securing crucial wins with quick pins and solid decisions. They battled fiercely until the very end, highlighting their resilience.

“Though the Bearcats didn’t win either match, they proved they can hold their own against the best,” Bainbridge varsity wrestling coach, Jacob Floyd said. “Their continuous growth and improvement promise more thrilling matches in the season ahead, much to the excitement of their fans.”

Senior, Ethyn Castro, went 2-0 at the State Duals competing in the 215-pound weight division against both teams. “As a senior, he has stepped up and leads the team as he works with them,” Floyd said. “He is always willing to go above and beyond for the team. He always follows through with what he says he will do. Ethyn leads by example and is ready to get involved with the rest of the team when needed.”

The Cairo Invitational was canceled due to the inclement weather. The Bearcats will be back on the mats Feb. 1 for the 3A Region 1 Traditional Tournament hosted by Cairo beginning at 10 a.m.
