Roy Jones passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, January 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in the presence of his faithful, loving God.

Born on May 29, 1938, in Calvary, GA, to the late Carl and Leona Jones, Roy was the second of four children. He shared a lifetime of memories with his siblings Carolyn, Dan, and Frank, cherishing the bond of family throughout his life.

Roy graduated from Cairo High School in 1956 and went on to earn a degree in accounting from the University of Georgia. A man of service and dedication, he served his country as a member of the United States Army. He began his professional career at Harrison and Ellis where he worked for 20 years until joining the Florida Lottery in its inaugural year of 1988.

On July 29, 1961, Roy married the love of his life, Faith “Faso” Jones, beginning a 63-year marriage that was as enduring as it was inspiring. Their story began when Roy was 14 and Faith was just 12, and together they created a legacy of love that spanned decades. You never knew Roy without Faith – they were inseparable and together, they built an amazing family who looked to Roy as a role model, friend, confidant, and loyal supporter.

Roy’s family was his world. He was the proud father of Carla Jones Darden and Max Jones, and the beloved Gramps to his grandchildren Patrick, Cole, Alec, Grace, Amaru, and Rumi. His joy multiplied with his great-grandchildren Wiley, Mary Jones, and Annie Miller, each of whom he adored.

A man of faith and humility, Roy served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Cairo and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, American Legion, and Methodist Men’s. His deep faith guided his every step, and his kindness and intentionality left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Gramps lived life to the fullest, making the world a better place simply by being himself. His family will carry on his spirit, forever grateful for the joy and love he brought into their lives.
