Bainbridge High School artists Ethan Knight and Carlie Sekula will represent Decatur County in Atlanta. This is the second year in a row that two students from BHS have attended this prestigious event. The Capitol Art Exhibition (CAE) is an annual student art exhibition in honor of National Youth Art Month. In Georgia, CAE has been a Georgia Art Education Association (GAEA) tradition for over fifty years. It began under the gold dome but is now too large for that space. Currently held in the Twin Towers building adjacent to the Capitol, CAE is Georgia’s largest state-wide PreK through College-age student art exhibition.
Art Teacher Rebecca Cole said, “These two students have their own unique style. They are self-motivated and have a natural ability to capture an emotion or an idea. I am blessed to teach such talented and creative students.”
Capitol Art Exhibit Reception will occur on Wednesday, March 13, from 4-5:30 pm. While in Atlanta, Students will visit the High Museum of Art, the Ga Aquarium, and the Atlantic Botanical Garden. Also, Legislators and State Superintendent Richard Woods are also expected to attend. Last year, Woods made a unique point of recognizing our students and praised our school system for supporting our students’ journey all the way to Atlanta, as we had come from such a long distance. He said it showed our school’s dedication to the Arts, an essential part of education.
