Friday morning, the Region Technology Competition occurred at the Board of Education.

The Region Technology Competition is for students who placed 1st at their district level to compete against each other to determine the region winners. Students from Decatur, Seminole, Lee, and Thomas County were present during the competition. Students could showcase their project creations in different categories, including Graphic Design, 3D Modeling, Animation, Video Production, Game Design, Robotics, Multimedia, Digital Photography, Project Programming, Internet Application, Photo Production, Audio Production, and Game Design.

The judging process was nerve-racking for students. There were eight judging rooms with about 20 judges from different career areas and counties. Judges used grading rubrics for each category provided by the state. While students waited for judging, they gathered in the Excellence Hall, where they showed others what they had created and completed a TECH BINGO, where they mingled with others from different counties. This allowed students to see projects from all different categories. Kristy Johnson, a student from Seminole County, organized games to encourage collaboration with all counties. Students who completed the activities had their names in drawing to win legos, mini spheros, and printers that community members and vendors donated. The event also allowed students access to the STEM bus. The STEM bus was stationed outside the Excellence Hall to provide students with fun opportunities to engage in STEM activities while they waited for the judging to be completed. Additionally, BOE partnered with Box Light to help with the media hub and the data science components throughout the county, in particular Xploris and Lab Disc.
