The Bainbridge Oaks Disc Golf Course hosted its first B-Tier professional tournament, the Reckoning on the River, over this past weekend. The course opened just last year, having hosted a few smaller events in the intervening months. According to Steve O’Neil, Bainbridge Director of Community and Economic Development, this was the course’s first B-Tier event, and the city hopes to host A-Tier events in the future.
The three division winners for the tournament were: Leah Tsinajinnie in the Female Professional division; Scott Conway in the Male Professional over 40 (MP40); and Silas Schultz in the Male Professional Open under 40 (MP). According to a social media post by the city, the winning cash prize was funded by hotel-motel tax funds.
The disc golf course has been in development for years, initially being proposed in city plans back in 2008, before finally being worked towards over the last five years. O’Neil described it as “Really, the culmination of a lot of hard work by the City of Bainbridge, and some professional disc golf players out of Tallahassee that helped us.”
