Mary Elizabeth Robinson was born July 3, 1942, in Gadsden County, FL, the daughter of James Wheat & Mary Emma Pitts Robinson. She was a graduate of Greensboro High School and worked as a paraprofessional for Gadsden County Schools until her retirement. Mary was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.

Mary was considered the “community” mother. Her energy, strong personality, and “do it my way” attitude made things work smoothly. Grandchildren were her heart’s treasure, so they probably received a little flexibility on how things were done.

The kitchen was Mary’s home base. She enjoyed cooking and canning vegetables. Cakes were baked with love and often became a lasting memory for newlywed couples. Mary’s creativity and talent didn’t stop at the kitchen sink. She was quite a seamstress and turned out beautiful quilts that will be treasured heirlooms for her family.

Survivors include her children, Jo Landa Givens (Rick) of Tallahassee, Diane Miller of Valdosta, Sarah Dawkins and Tammy Pope (Eddie) all of Quincy, Sharman Duke (Paul) of St. Louis, MO, Becky Green (Frank) of Bainbridge, Karen Riley of Tallahassee, and Sharon Bevis (Jerry) of Marianna; her grandchildren, Jeff & Natasha Givens, Brad & Tonya Givens, Jody Brown, Jason Corbin, Susan Gleaton & Whitley Hicks, William & Brittany Blocker, Heather Blocker, Hannah Pope, Brent Duke, Tyler Duke, Blake Green, Will Shepherd, Mallory House, and Jeff House; her great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, William, Gabby, Aerial, Payton, Beau, Kaylee, Barrett, Aubree, Alex, Karina, Eliana, Harper Grace, Josie, Davis, Myles, and Jayden; her great-great-granddaughter, Anna Leigh; her sisters, Joyce Dotschay (Nick) of Sylvania and Hilda Fletcher of Faceville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Joe Ben Gleaton; her husband of 6 years, Larry Black; and her son, Ricky Gleaton.
