GBI investigates murder in Bainbridge, Georgia

After preliminary autopsy results were received from the GBI Crime Lab, it has been determined that the victim located on Pondtown Road died as a result of a homicide. This case is being investigated as a murder. The victim was originally located by work crews performing maintenance in the area where she was located on the morning of February 12th. The victim has been identified as KIERRA BURNEY, born May of 1989. BURNEY lived in Bainbridge and occasionally in Colquitt, Georgia off and on.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office is offering up to a $1,000 reward from the “Decatur County Citizens Against Crime Fund” to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for BURNEY’s murder. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the GBI or Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
