The Bainbridge High School Golf teams have hit the fairways running to prepare for this year’s season. The teams are under the direction of Coach Greg Harrell and Coach Mike Harville. The players and coaches set a goal to build upon the tradition and success of former years by scheduling regimented practices, hosting fundraisers, and promoting the sport of golf in Bainbridge and Decatur County.

The Bearcat and Lady Cat Golf teams hosted their season opener against the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets on Wednesday, February 12th, at Bainbridge Country Club.

The Bearcat Golf team members are John David Bell, Dawson Cottles, Dominique Davis, Judson Dollar, CJ Dorsey, Rylan Godwin, Thomas Hines, Evan Hutto, Caleb Logue, Logan Marzolf, Riggs Rentz, Hayden Reynolds, Tucker Surratt, and Brendon White.

The Lady Cat Golf team members are Elizabeth Adams, Maddie Barber, Mary Margaret Beckham, Riley Kate Brock, Sydnee Coker, Emma Dollar, Ivey Godby, and Molly James Humphrey.

During the matches, the Bearcats and Lady Cats battled the great equalizer in the game of golf, the wind.

Each team went stroke for stroke the entire time. The Bearcat and Lady Cat teams learned that during matches where the elements are working against golfers, they use the talent given to improve on aspects of the game that could not be affected by the wind.

Ultimately, the Bearcat and Lady Cats fell short of their goal this time. The Bearcats trailed by a 2-stroke lead behind the TCC Yellow Jackets, and the Lady Cats fell behind the Lady Jackets by one stroke.

Congratulations to the Bearcat Low Medalist: Hayden Reynolds, who shot a 39, and the Lady Cat Low Medalist: Emma Dollar, who shot a 46. The low medalist for the JV Bearcats went to Brendon White and CJ Dorsey who both shot 46. The teams took this loss as a lesson to improve for their next match against the Cairo Syrupmakers.

“I want to encourage players to practice and play year-round so that the sport of golf is not only a year-round staple in our community,” Harrell said. “But also a major part of these players’ personal development. I am excited to see what this year will hold with the talent from these Bainbridge High School golfers.”

The Bearcat and Lady Cat Golf teams had a match on Tuesday, February 18th, at the Bainbridge Country Club. Today, the Lady Cat Golf team travels for the Lady Panther Invitational at Lakewood Golf Course and this Saturday, will take part in the Lady Packers two-person scramble at Sunset Golf Course.

The Bearcats will be back on the course on Monday, February 24, at Stone Creek for the Dynamite Goodloe Tournament and at the Bainbridge Country Club for the Worth County Tournament.

Come out and support these young men and women during their matches. The team is immensely grateful for its ongoing partnership with Bainbridge Country Club, including BCC Golf Pro Rick Pierce and BCC Greens Superintendent Richard Irvin, which helps preserve and enhance the game of golf at Bainbridge High School.
