Charles Henry Lewis was born April 8, 1944, in Chattanooga, TN, the son of Herschel & Margurite Smith Lewis. After high school, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Chuck was a faithful member and “get-it-done-guy” at First Baptist Church.

A gentleman with a sweet spirit, a warm smile, a kind heart, and a hug or handshake, is what you encountered every single time you saw Chuck Lewis. His love for people was evident seconds after your initial introduction, and often, that moment counted as the beginning of a lifetime friendship. His example served as the bar, God first, then family, church, and golf.

Chuck had a strong work ethic and completed tasks with precision. He could build most anything and always had an idea on how to make things work. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending hours on the golf course and exploring the lake. Chuck never underestimated the value of friendship, especially when his golf game was a little off or he found himself lost on the lake. Those friends provided the words of encouragement (aka as ribbing) and bread crumbs to find his way home just as Chuck would have done for them.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Carol Howell Lewis; his children, Misty Lewis Burt (Chris) of Middleburg, FL, Karla Nava (Joel) of Hawaii; Dawna O’Neill of Jacksonville, FL, Shana Austin (John) of Palm Harbor, FL, and Shane O’Neill (Missy) of Alexander, NC; his thirteen grandchildren, Shawna, Marie, Stacy, Stephanie, Larisa, Zachary, Lakota, Brittany, Brieanna, Kayla, Keely, Emma Rose, and Austin; several great-grandchildren; his sisters, Wanda Bassham (Bob), Ann Martin, and Jane Adams (Rick); his canine companion, Izzy; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Lewis, Roy Lewis, Jimmy Lewis, Luke Lewis, and an infant sister.
