Board of Education Meeting with Special Recognition Ceremony

The Decatur County Board of Education (DCBOE) held its monthly meeting at 1417 Dothan Road. Ana Baty, Director of Public Relations at DCBOE, highlighted the “Biscuits for the Best” initiative for January and February. In January, Baty recognized West Bainbridge for the New Beginning Learning Center, sponsored by Three Squares Diner and James Robinson Taekwondo. For February, Jones Wheat was honored, with sponsorship from SunStop.
Additionally, there was a special recognition event for the First Lego League Robotics.The Sixgill Sharks team members are Joshua Bullock, Neveah Aldridge, Sensational Bouie, Penny Enoch, Semaj James, Jamari Johnson, Khoi Nguyen, and Serenity Rivera. This group came in 3rd place overall in region and 2nd place overall in the robot game.The Blue Fins team members are Joel Aguayo, Derri’yonna Anderson, Haley Finney, Genna Herring, Anaesha Porter, Jelani Saylor,and Brandon Thronton. This group came in 2nd place overall in region, 1st place overall in region for Core Values, and 3rd place in the robot game. Both teams qualified for Super Regionals held in Warner Robins in January, which was the final stage before the state tournament. Alas, we were unable to attend due to the snow.
Students set up tables showcasing their robotics projects for the board members to observe and gain insights into the world of robotics. Students presented their robot designs, robot games, and innovation projects, which are projects that help the ocean be safer and environmentally friendly. Subsequently, students received certificates in acknowledgment of their hard work.
Following these recognitions, Dr. Boyd English presented the administrative services report and action items before adjourning the meeting.
