Mr. John William Sonner, age 90, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away on March 2, 2025. A memorial service to honor Mr. Sonner will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 2:00pm in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home. Chaplin Samantha Lightfoot officiating.
John Sonner was born in Verona, Pennsylvania on September 14, 1934. He grew up in the greater Pittsburg area. Upon graduating from high school, John went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, John settled back in Pittsburg where he began his career in the steel industry as a welder. He worked his way up to a foreman with Mosher Steel Company. John thrived in his career. He traveled the world with his job. After completing his job in Kuwait he was transferred to Bainbridge, GA where he met and married the love of his life Celeste Wilson Powell.
Mr. Sonner was an excellent craftsman. He enjoyed all aspects of the building process from the electrical to wood work. John also appreciated a good NASCAR race as well as playing a game of cards with friends.
He is survived by his daughter Katherine Powell and wife Sabrina Calhoun; and his dear friends, Cleo Lynn and family, Catherine Olivent, Sam Dean, and Earl Begley. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Celeste Wilson Powell.
