On March 11th, the BHS Band Program hosted the Troy University Jazz Ensemble and Symphony Band in the Performing Arts Center. These are the top two performing Ensembles at Troy. Dr. Mark Walker, Director of Bands, and Dr. Dave Camwell, Director of Jazz Studies, put on phenomenal concerts for students around the area. We had roughly 350 students from different schools, including Seminole County, Hutto Elementary, Miller County, Early County, Bainbridge High, and Cairo High School.
Mr. Sewell and Mr. Parker, BHS Directors, are both graduates of Troy University and received an opportunity to conduct the Troy Symphony Band during this performance. When speaking to several of the students, they were amazed and inspired by how well both ensembles performed. Dr. Walker mentioned that many of the students in the performing ensembles are not music majors and encouraged the students to continue to perform. He also spoke about the many scholarship opportunities that are available for students. The students had the chance to talk with the directors about the different opportunities Troy offered after the concert. Parker, stated, “We are so thankful to our school and board office administration for their continued support of our students and our band program and for allowing us to host these two fine ensembles!”
