On the weekend of March 9, the Grace Christian Cougars’ student bass anglers made waves at the Harris Chain of Lakes in Leesburg, Florida, demonstrating both skill and determination in a highly competitive tournament. The pristine waterways of the Harris Chain provided a picturesque backdrop for this thrilling event, and the Cougars rose to the challenge, showcasing their talent against some of the toughest competition in the region.
The Harris Chain lakes have fertile waters that sustain abundant shad, golden shiners, and bluegill, providing ample food for large Florida strain largemouth bass.
The Harris Chain consists of eight interconnected lakes, such as Lake Apopka, Lake Harris, Lake Griffin, Lake Eustis, Lake Dora, Lake Beauclair, and Lake Carlton.
Walker Brogdon and Perry Glenn set the stage for an unforgettable weekend by dominating the tournament on Saturday. The dynamic duo reeled in an impressive total of 15.38 pounds of fish, earning them a well-deserved first-place finish. Meanwhile, teammates Skype and Luke Clements made their mark with a ninth-place finish, landing a total of 7.41 pounds. Their efforts contributed to the Cougars’ overall strong showing, underscoring the depth of talent within the team.
Sunday brought even more success for Brogdon and Glenn, as they returned to the water with determination. The pair secured a second-place finish with a solid catch weighing 10.78 pounds. In addition to their remarkable performance, they earned the prestigious “Big Fish” prize for the largest single catch of the day—a bass tipping the scales at an impressive 4.47 pounds. This accolade highlighted their exceptional skills and ability to excel under pressure.
