Saturday morning, Bainbridge High School (BHS) FFA students hosted their annual Spring Plant Sale at the BHS Greenhouse at 1 Bearcat Boulevard. From 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, attendees browsed various plants for sale, including flowers, garden vegetables, herbs, houseplants, succulents, ferns, landscape plants, trees, and more.

Tracy Champagne, Agriculture Teacher at BHS, highlighted the significance of this event, stating, “The plant sale is a great opportunity for the horticulture students to showcase their hard work and promote our program. The methods students are taught to grow, maintain, and propagate plants correlate directly with their curriculum standards.” She added, “The students have had their hands on every plant available in preparing for this sale. It takes the entire school year to prepare.”

Champagne and her plant science, nursery, and landscape students contributed to the sale, along with contributions from her other classes. They played a vital role in promoting the event through signs, social media, advertising, and word of mouth. Additionally, they designed flyers, created community display pieces and signs, and helped stage the greenhouse to emulate a professional garden center atmosphere. Champagne also partnered with local and national nurseries to elevate the event.

The proceeds from the plant sale will support activities and provide educational opportunities for students. Looking ahead, Champagne shared that hanging baskets will be available for Easter and Mother’s Day. In the fall, the program plans to sell mums and a variety of holiday foliage, including poinsettias. She’s also considering a fruit tree sale, though she’s still determining its feasibility.

For those who missed Saturday’s event, the Spring Plant Sale will continue from March 24 to 28, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
