Marion Elizabeth “Betty” Thompson, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Richmond Hill, Georgia. Born in 1944 in Dublin, Georgia, she was the daughter of the Laura “Lollie” Jane Snider Parrott Gibson Griffin and Blakeley Arnau Parrott. From an early age, Betty was blessed with a second father, the late Bubba Gibson which later brought her three loving sisters, Rose, Laura and Helen. She was a 1962 graduate of Bainbridge High School and then attended South Georgia Technical College. Betty first married Toby Roberts of which they shared two sons, Jimmy and Richie. She later married Hank Hankinson and then Jon Thompson. She lived most of her adult life in Garden City, Savannah and recently Richmond Hill, Georgia. Betty retired in 2015 from Urological Associates of Savannah where she had many cherished friendships including a dear friend, Debbie Usher who remained a faithful and special companion to the end. Betty lived large, loving life, and her family. Often referred to as “Betty Boop”, she loved cooking for others, going to the beach (specifically Panama City with her sisters), dancing and singing beach music and everything Elvis. She was a grandmother and great grandmother and was immensely proud of those titles.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Laura “Lollie” Jane Snider Gibson Griffin, Blakeley Parrott, Bubba Gibson, husband, Jon Thompson, son, Richard Floyd Roberts, and brother-in-law, Leon Culverson.
She is survived by a son, Jimmy Roberts (Janet), daughter-in-law, Kay Tatum, grandsons James Roberts (Jenna), John Roberts (Abby), great grandchildren Micah and Sadie Mae Roberts, cherished friend, Debbie Usher, sisters Rose Culverson (the late Leon), Laura Rabon (Foyed), Helen Stembridge (Asbury), her nieces and nephews and their families, and sister-in-laws Judy Roberts Quinney and Vicki Roberts Bowen.
The family extends their great appreciation and thanks to the staff and administration of Bryan County Health and Rehab with whom Betty formed many friendships and was provided great care over the last nine years.
